Safer communities

Violence and abuse are pervasive in our society and much of it is hidden as a result of fear or shame. The impact of all forms of inter-personal violence and abuse can continue over a life-time and have numerous detrimental outcomes.

From population surveys, we know that approximately one in five children experience either sexual, physical or emotional abuse and one in four women experience partner abuse. Youth violence, frequently associated with binge drinking and the night time economy, has a disproportionate effect on the sense of safety and social cohesion in the wider community.

Below are resources relating to safer communities which have been organised at both a regional and national level.
