A sustainable region

Sustainable development and health are indivisible. Many of the issues that need to be tackled from a sustainable development perspective are also key determinants of health across the wider community.

Sustainability is development that “meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” (Brundtland Commission, 1987). Developing a healthier, sustainable region involves not only creating communities where healthy choices are easier, but also demands looking at factors such as transport, how we use natural resources, what we do with our waste, and improving housing and the built environment.

Below are resources relating to a sustainable region which have been organised at a regional level.
