What is a resource?
A resource can be many things. It can be an event, a paper, a report, a table of data, a map, or even a person, and so on. Essentially any item that is relevant to public health that can be shared is worth adding to the site.
Contributing a resource
Have a resource and want to share it? You can make your resource available to everyone or to registered users only. You must be a registered user and logged on before you can contribute. Once you have logged on, select the Contribute tab at the top of the screen and select the type of resource you want to contribute. Guidance is built into the wizards, but if you need further assistance, you can contact the
. Once you have finished entering the resource details, it will be verified by an administrator and made available on the website. If there are any questions, the website administrator will be in touch.
What is the NPHL?
All resources have been classified using the National Public Health Language. This is similar to the PHITS language (Public Health Information Tagging Standard) that was previously used, but is a hybrid of the PHITS and HDAs Public Health Information Thesaurus and should hopefully be easier to use and understand. The new NPHL should allow for powerful searching since related terms from the thesaurus are used when querying the database. For example, if a user enters the word ‘overweight’ it will also search on related terms such as ‘body mass index’ and ‘obesity’.
