Welcome to the South East Public Health Observatory (SEPHO)

The Department of Health in the South East has commissioned a partnership of organisations, led by the Health Protection Agency's Thames Valley Health Protection Unit, to explore the health needs of migrants in the South East region. They are holding a regional event to report their findings to key stakeholders.

The 2008/09 Drug and Alcohol Action Team (DAAT) data profiles are two page summary reports for each DAAT in the South East for adults and for young people in drug treatment. The reports contain analysis of data from the National Drug Treatment Monitoring System (NDTMS) and from other relevant sources. The new reports and guidance documents can be downloaded from the DTMU website http://www.dtmu.org.uk/Reports.html.

The annual report Drug Treatment in the South East: Analysis of the 2008/09 NDTMS dataset can also be downloaded from the DTMU website using the link above. This report contains analysis of the 2008/09 NDTMS dataset for adults and young people resident in the South East in treatment for drug misuse. It examines client demographics, drug use, and treatment journeys. A methodology document has also been published which outlines the methodology used for the analysis of the 2008/09 NDTMS dataset.

The format for the 2009 profiles has been changed to provide more information on individual regions and more input from the Regional Directors of Public Health. The 2009 profiles include 4 more pages, more text, regional maps of relevant health indicators, and comparison of local authority areas to the regional average as well as the England average. Results from the 2008/09 NCMP were published by the NHS Information Centre (NHS IC) on 10th Dec 2009. The 2008/09 NCMP took height and weight measures of over 1 million children in England. In the South East, 8.7% of children in Reception year (aged 4-5 years) were classified as obese and 16.0% of children in Year 6 (aged 10-11 years).

The National Obesity Observatory has published Local Authority and Primary Care Trust e-atlases for the examination of 2008/09 NCMP results and data from previous NCMP years, along with other relevant indicators including measures of local area deprivation. Click here to access the data.

SEEIT, the South East England Indicator Tool, is a ‘one-stop’ resource bringing together trends, projections and PCT plans and LAA trajectories for a range of Vital Signs and National Indicators.

The South East Health Inequalities Gap Measurement Tool provides a standardised approach to analysing health inequalities gaps and trends based on mortality rates for deprivation score-based quintiles of super output areas.
